"Mannahatta": what Manhattan was like in 1609 →
Fun, interactive map simulation of what Manhattan was like before the city existed.
For comparison, in 1609, Stockholm had a population of just under 10,000, and basically occupied only the small island now known as Gamla Stan (Old Town). Gamla Stan is about 5 square km, while Manhattan is about 60 square km.
